I started playing with puzzles
in 1981 (when I was 11 years old) and my mother gave me a rubik´s cube as a
Christmas present. I played with it for hours, days, and weeks, and I
finally found by myself the way of solving it. Years later, I read that the
method I used was called "corners first".
I believe, that finding a solution, is a question of trying different
methods, and that it is not only a question of intelligence.
Twenty years later, I was watching a TV program about mathematics, and the
presenter had a 4x4x4 cube on his table. What a surprise!!! There were other
challenges similar to the Rubik's cube.
But it was in 2005 when looking for a toy for my son in a science museum,
when a found a Rubik's toy and discover
www.rubiks.com,
then I began to seek for more information, and then discovered many kinds of
puzzles. Thanks to Mr Juan Roure (the best collector of such puzzles in
Spain) and his information, I began to collect puzzles like the pyraminx,
skewb, cube-21, etc., and thanks to Alberto Draven that bought me some
puzzles from London.
I always enjoy playing with those mechanical puzzles and trying to solve
them. My idea of enjoying them is finding the methods to solve them. I
neither like speedcubing nor reading other existing methods.
These puzzles are a good therapy for relaxing (an opinion not shared by
everyone) and training for your mind.
